Is funny how people call these girls princesses, but only a few of them are really princess. For example Mulan is not a princes she's just a daughter of a rich family. Bell also not a princess, she is just a
peasant girl and Tiana is just a waitress. Eves Cinderella doesn't start as a princess, she just marries to a prince.
Except Mulan is not an official Disney Princess according to her movie, as Imperial China would not allow someone to become a high member of their ruling class, no matter how much they saved everyone (unless she dethroned the Emperor and had enough support from the people and the military to solidify her position as Empress.) Though Disney has happily accepted her into their collection so as to profit off her her film's success, as is the Disney way. It is interesting how Pocahontas (who you have indeed included) and Kida are often left out in the Princess lineup and their movies were not as well received. After all Pocahontas caused the collapse of the Disney Renaissance and Atlantas was experimental in its focus on action, adventure, and exploration. Both of them also feature villains that are boring in terms of their motivation and the character design for Pocahontas was such a jump from what people had been used to seeing in female characters like Belle and Jasmine.
Yeah you're right many don't include Pochahontas and Kida even though they are both cool! Since they can at least fight for themselves just like Mulan. In the end, I like how many fans are accepting Rapunzel and Merida in the list of princesses.
